Vellore District

Vellore Mavattam (Vellore District) - is one of the 32 districts in the Tamil Nadu state which is in India. It is one of the 6 districts which form Tiruvannamalai region of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the biggest district in Tamil Nadu. Vellore City is the headquarters of this district. As of 2011, the district had a population of 3,936,331 with a sex-ratio of 1,007 females for every 1,000 males.

Vellore Temperature - Vellore is at 12.92°N 79.13°E, 220m above the mean sea level. The city has a semi-arid climate with high temperatures throughout the year and relatively low rainfall. It is in Vellore district of the South Indian state, Tamil Nadu, 135 km (84 mi) west of the state capital Chennai. Vellore lies in the Eastern Ghats region and Palar river basin. The topography is almost plain with slopes from west to east. There are no notable mineral resources. Black loam soil is found in parts of Vellore Taluk. The other type of soil in the city is chiefly gravelly, stony and sandy of the red variety. Vellore experiences hot and dry weather throughout the year.

Vellore Airport - (ICAO:VOVR), The airport is spread over 51.5 acres which is in Vellore city. Vellore Airport was re-activated in as a a part of Airports Authority of India idle airports activation programme in July 2006 to facilitate regular flying by trainee pilots of the Madras Flying Club whose operations were restricted with the increase in scheduled aircraft movement at Chennai Airport. The club stopped its training activities in March 2011. The Government of Tamil Nadu plans to set up an aeronautical training institute and pilot academy in collaboration with Airports Authority of India.

Approx. 215 Kms distance between from Vellore to Bangalore. there is lots of buses available both SETC and KSRTC for vellore to bangalore. Normal buses also available who charging low fare charges for travel.

For train travel you have to go katpadi and get it. Approx. 10 rails available per day.

8Km for Vellore to Katpadi Distance. There is no train available for vellore main. possible to travel for vellore cantonment. There is lots of buses, share autos or pre-paid autos to reach vellore bustand from katpadi railway station.

Approximately 137 Kms from Chennai to Vellore Distance while we driving by vehicle, There is no direct flight for vellore from any cities, Actually there is no airport in Vellore.

Railway station located at katpadi only which is in vellore area only. so we have to reach katpadi for train travel purpose. 10-20 mins travel from vellore bustand. Approx. Travel time 1.58 hrs from chennai.

For Bus - There is lots of bus services for chennai to vellore. approx. travel time: 2hrs.
